Our first year supporting the Lions in their Christmas Cakes and Pudding sales via the Santa Sleigh has been a tremendous success thanks to the many volunteers who have come out for one or in many cases, multiple shifts.
The total count on $$$ raised will be available shortly but even more than the money raised has been the experience for kids and parents as we shared in the Christmas spirit and had a great time while also supporting the Brighton Lions in their fundraising effort.
We had 2 shifts a week for the past 4 weeks and unfortunately had to call off a couple of the nights due to heat. Our Santa’s were verging on 80+ years old and none of them wanted to be on the sleigh in anything past 34. Can’t say I blame them.
I can’t thank the tireless volunteers enough. The kids who participated did a fantastic job. They were great ambassadors for our club and for the Lions project. It was a great opportunity for them to hone their math skills, their sales skills and it was definitely a great fitness opportunity as my step tracker usually had us somewhere around 5000 to 6000 steps (and my legs are longer than most over the kids…).
I strongly recommend that we take this on as a club again next year. Those who participated would hopefully all agree that it was a great bonding experience for the kids and adults and it was a great way to gain exposure for our Surf Club in conjunction with the Lions.
