This season Surf Life Saving South Australia is conducting carnivals in a slightly different format.  There will be two (2) branch carnivals, two (2) official carnivals and then State Titles.

Branch Carnivals

This is a new format for the 2021/2022 season and therefore please expect some teething issues, but the emphasis is on FUN and TEAMs.  Branch carnivals will follow a similar format to a Saturday training, with a focus on team events and they are designed to encourage children into participation.  Seacliff will be part of the Holdfast Bay branch, and therefore will join Brighton, Somerton and Glenelg.

Branch Carnival 1 – 20th November – This will be hosted by Brighton / Seacliff

Branch Carnival 2 – 11th December – This will be hosted by Seacliff / Somerton

The timetable of the events are still being worked through, and communication will be sent out once formalised.

Official Carnivals

Official carnivals will be held on Sundays, as in previous years with a focus on individual and team events as we build up to the State Championships.  This season we have included the carnival fees in the membership fees to make it easier to register children and encourage participation.  Children must compete in a minimum 1 carnival in order to enter the State Title competition days.

Official Carnival 1 – 23rd January – NOW CANCELLED

Official Carnival 2 – 20th February – Port Elliot

The timetable of the events are still being worked through, and communication will be sent out once formalised.

State Championships

The Junior State Championships is the pinnacle two (2) day Carnival, run by Surf Life Saving SA, to conclude the Nipper season. Nippers compete in Individual and Team events for their Club, accruing Club points and competing for Medals across the various age-based Individual and Team events. As with Junior Carnivals, AGLs and the Junior Club Coach will consult on selecting teams based on performance throughout the season, participation and attendance.

Please Note: Children MUST compete in a minimum of one (1) Junior Carnival to be eligible to enter the Junior State Championships.

State Championship – 12th & 13th March – Hosted by Glenelg SLSC

Club Championships

SSLSC annually conducts Junior Club Championships. These are run as two (2) mini-Carnivals during the season as part of regular Saturday Training. The Junior Club Championships see Nippers involved in friendly competition against members of their own age-group and gender. This season the Seacliff Club Champs will be run on Saturday 27 November and Saturday 5 February.

Points are awarded to placegetters in each event, on each of the two (2) days of competition. Ribbons are presented at the  conclusion of each of the two (2) Junior Club Championship days for each event contested.

To determine the overall 2021/22 Junior Club Champions (both male and female) for each age group, each Nipper’s accumulated points from the Club Championships are added to an additional one (1) point per Junior Carnival attended. However, to be eligible for a Club end of season award, Nipper’s must attend at least 60% of Saturday Trainings over the season.

At the end of the season, trophies are awarded at the Junior Club Presentation for each age group and gender.
