Junior
Carnivals
We are back to a familiar format with 4 state carnivals planned for this season.
Official Carnivals (U8 – U13)
Official carnivals will be held on Sundays, as in previous years with a focus on individual and team events as we build up to the State Championships. As like last season we have again included the carnival fees in the membership fees to make it easier to register children and encourage participation. Children must compete in a minimum one (1) carnival in order to enter the State Title competition days.
Carnival 1 (Branch Carnival) – 18th November – Glenelg SLSC
Carnival 2 – 17th December – Grange SLSC
Carnival 3 – 21st January – South Port SLSC
Carnival 4 – 11th February – Port Elliot SLSC
State Qualifiers – 25th February – Seacliff SLSC
The timetable of the events are still being worked through, and communication will be sent out once formalised.
State Championships (U8 – U13)
The Junior State Championships is the pinnacle two (2) day Carnival, run by Surf Life Saving SA, to conclude the Nipper season. Nippers compete in Individual and Team events for their Club, accruing Club points and competing for Medals across the various age-based Individual and Team events. As with Junior Carnivals, AGLs and the Junior Club Coach will consult on selecting teams based on performance throughout the season, participation and attendance.
Please Note: Children MUST compete in a minimum of one (1) Junior Carnival to be eligible to enter the Junior State Championships.
State Championship – 16th & 17th March – Hosted by Port Noarlunga SLSC
Club Championships (U8 – U13)
SSLSC annually conducts Junior Club Championships. This season we are returning to a format where we will run one (1) mini-Carnivals during the season as part of regular Saturday Training. The Junior Club Championships see Nippers involved in friendly competition against members of their own age-group and gender. Date(s) to be confirmed. This season Club Champs will be run on 3 February 2024.
Points are awarded to place getters in each event. Ribbons are presented at the conclusion of each of the event.
To determine the overall 2023/24 Junior Club Champions (both male and female) for each age group, each Nipper’s points from the Club Championships are added to an additional one (1) point per Junior Carnival attended. However, to be eligible for a Club end of season award, Nipper’s must attend at least 70% of Saturday Trainings over the season.
At the end of the season, trophies are awarded at the Junior Club Presentation for each age group and gender.
